Restaurant of the Day: Forest Grill
Tonight’s Black Star wine dinner was an exciting journey through food and wine. A highlight of the night was the smoked trout salad (by TheHungryDudes). Paired with Sparkling Brut, the layering of flavors in this dish is exceptional.

Restaurant of the Day: Round House BBQ
Seems like a new BBQ joint is opening every week in the metro Detroit area. Round House BBQ is one of the latest to open. Their macaroni and cheese (by TheHungryDudes) harkens back to cafeteria style mac & cheese, but in a good way. Sharp cheese sauce covers soft spiral macaroni - no golden brown crust, but this is a comforting side dish.

Being located in Dearbon, Fuego Mexican Grill is smart by having hummus (by TheHungryDudes) on the menu. Their hummus is smoky and garlicky. A tasty fusion of Mexican and Middle Eastern.

If you’re going to have dessert, you might as well do it right. The Ghiradelli brownie sundae (by TheHungryDudes) at Wildwood Tavern is a warm and cold, chocolaty, and a showcase for Michigan products (Stroh’s ice cream, Sanders hot fudge).

Living so close to Dearborn, access to good chicken shawarma (by TheHungryDudes) is just a short drive away. Hamido happens to have some of the shawarma around. Add a dollop of toum (garlic sauce) and you’re in shawarma heaven.

The Metropolitan Cafe was recently chosen as one of the Detroit Free Press’s best new restaurants of 2010. With desserts like “hot chocolate” (by TheHungryDudes) it is easy to see why. This chipotle infused dessert is sweet and smoky.

Restaurant of the Day: 1917 American Bistro
Our most popular dessert photo from 2010 was the Chocolate Obsession Cake (by TheHungryDudes). This cake definitely tastes as good as it looks - moist, rich, and intensely chocolaty. A real treat.

Although Rojo’s menu leans heavily toward seafood, they do make an interesting Tres Leches Cake (by TheHungryDudes). With a layer of fruit between layers of cake, this is a unique take on a classic dessert.
